Invites Non-Biology Sophomores and Juniors with an interest in the Life  Sciences to participate in a Summer Research Experience with any of 20-30 Biomedical Research Faculty at:

from early June to mid August.

APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR 2008:
Friday, March 14
(The deadline has been extended to the 31st of March.)

The program will primarily focus on an in-depth research experience in a host lab where the candidate will work on their own defined research project in collaboration with post-docs and graduate students trained in various biomedical fields.

There will also be several enrichment experiences incorporated into the program, including:

Short courses on current topics in biotechnology and biomedical applications.
 
A seminar series geared toward career opportunities.
 
Field trips to local research facilities that illustrate the multiple applications of biomedical research.

Program Duration

The program runs for ten weeks (early June through mid August) during which time you will be required to devote full time to the program.

Program Support

Students in the program will receive a salary of at least $3000 with additional allowance for travel and housing costs for non local students.

 

GSBS
The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (Departments of Biochemistry, Cellular and Structural Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, and Radiology) is sponsoring a 10 week, federally funded, summer program.

The Program (B-SURE)
This program offers summer support to students currently in engineering, mathematics, computer, physical, or chemical science tracks to explore the wealth of opportunities provided in the biomedical sciences.  Candidates may choose to work with any of the approximately thirty mentors in eight departments within the Health Science Center.  The research areas represented among the mentors of the program include:

Mechanisms of pathogenesis
Cell biology of inter- and intra-cellular signaling mechanisms
Biophysics of ion channels
Structural analysis of macromolecules
Biophysical analysis of molecular interactions
Enzymatic mechanisms, kinetics and regulation
Genomic structure and evolution



Modulation of potassium and calcium channels in SCG neurons
(Mark Shapiro Lab, Department of Physiology).
